Manchester, Comic Con, and Marketing

From the 19th to the 20th of July, the city of Manchester was home to one of sci-fi and fantasy’s most well-known events: Comic Con. Just under 40,000 fans were expected at the two day event, with many choosing to dress up as their favourite characters. With a number of fantastic special guests in attendance, including Warwick Davis and Chris Barrie, and MCM eSports in attendance providing free play experiences on top-of-the-line rigs, the event was a huge draw and a massive success.

Big Crowds, Big Opportunities

Any marketer worth the name will tell you that in order to make an impact with your brand, you need to find your audience. The best marketing efforts in the world won’t help you if no-one can hear you. That’s why events like Comic Con are a goldmine for the right brands – your prospective audience is right there, and they’re potentially at their most receptive.

Hitting the Right Note

We’ve spoken before about the impact that you can, and should, be making with your promotional activities. This is extra vital at an event as big as Comic Con; mess this up, and you’ll be kicking yourself for days. The crowd at an event like that isn’t just vaguely interested in what you have to say – if you’ve got a new fantasy game that you want to launch, these people are positively pumped about it. The atmosphere of the convention gives free licence for fans to nerd out over their favourite franchises, which is exactly the kind of buzz you want.

Don’t Wait For It to Happen, Make It Happen!

You can’t afford to let this opportunity pass you by – get stuck in! Engage with your audience, give them what they want and make an impact! One of the best ways to do with is with promo staff; check out our post about the Dark Souls II launch – the audience loves to feel involved, to see their favourite characters come to life, and if you know a thing or two about cosplaying you’ll know that it’s the done thing at an event like Comic Con.
