What to Look For in Trade Show Promo Staff

Trade shows and exhibitions can be an excellent investment for businesses of all kinds; it allows you to put your brand in front of a highly targeted audience, as well as giving you the opportunity to network with potential partners. However, you may not always be able to spare the staff to man the booth – you need to keep your business going at the same time, naturally! This is where promotional staff can be a great boon, giving you the manpower to properly staff your stand at any trade show or exhibition without affecting the day to day running of your company.

Personal Qualities

Two of the biggest qualities that you’ll look for when you’re hiring exhibition staff  are confidence and enthusiasm; they’ll need to be able to engage with your attendees all day long without looking tired, and without seeming unsure about the information they’re providing. You should also look at how they bear themselves when they’re not actively engaging with clients – it’s important to have people with positive, welcoming body language that will encourage attendees to approach, not turn them away.

Organisation is also important; you need to be sure that your event staff will be on time, and will keep to their assigned lunchtimes and breaks so that you maintain the right level of staffing throughout the event.

Physical Specifications

You may also have certain physical specifications; your target audience will naturally respond better to staff from a similar demographic, so you may be looking for very professional looking staff, for very sporty individuals, or for fun and trendy people. Some clients have very strict physical specifications – for example, many games companies attend trade shows with actors in costume as the main characters of their games, meaning that they need to source event staff of exactly the right height and measurements to fit the costumes.

Skills & Availability

Before you hire exhibition staff, you need to be sure about what function or roles they will be performing. Different individuals will be able to bring different skills and experiences to your event, so think carefully about whether you need data capture skills, product demonstration skills, or even acting ability.

Availability is also a factor; think about not only whether they will be available for the event itself, but also whether they might be available beforehand for pre-event training.
